Age guide on pouches etc

LO is 8 months and eating really well. We’re doing a mixture of finger food and spoon feeding and he generally eats what we’re having. We also always keep in a few pouches in the cupboard for when what we’re eating isn’t suitable, if we go out for a meal, our meal times change etc etc. However I’m finding that a lot of the 7 month + ones are still really thin and feeding them to him is a pain. He happily tackles good size lumps with home made food - he’ll eat orzo pasta, rice, mushed beans etc. Can I buy ones for 10 months plus instead? Or will they have dangerously big lumps in for an 8 month old? Or is there a nutritional reason for the age guides too?

There's not anything they can have at 10 months that they can't have at 7 months. Try them and see if they suit better

I would say it’s mainly texture and thy have to err on the side of caution for fear of litigation. Just use your common sense and start buying the chunkier stuff-you can always mash it more.

You could mash it more if required. I think the main difference is that 10 month olds have more teeth. The food may also be sweeter - make sure you check the ingrediants. I hate it when fruit is added unnecessarily to savoury food to make it ‘taste better’.

Thanks all! Seems obvious now I’ve read your replies but my common sense does seem to desert me when I’m tired!
@Teddybear45 there seem to be few newer brands that are very anti the whole hidden fruit thing. Interestingly I’ve found that they seem to be a better texture for him too.

Your can get reusable pouches so could cook a little bit extra when he's having what you have and freeze it, you can choose the consistency then
