When to introduce snacks?

At what point do you introduce snacks in between meals?

My 8 month old is "eating" (I use the term loosely as doing baby led weaning so a lot of food ends up on him/the floor) 3 meals a day and has done for about a month. I started weaning at 6 months but absolutely nothing went near his mouth for about a month.

I saw my health visitor today and she said that they should be having an am and pm snack by the time they’re 10 months. My LO is 8 months so I’m going to start with one snack now, then get the other one going in a month or so.

Just to add, that advice may be based on the fact that mine is taking well to food. We’ve been going since just before 6 months using mixed spoon and finger foods and he eats quite a lot.

Thank you so much for that @birdybirdbird. It sounds like a good idea to introduce 1 for a month and then another.

We didn't until his milk feeds started decreasing properly at about 10 months.

With BLW it’s about their cues.

When are they hungry? Link it to when you might have a snack.

I know you might be after some structure, but sometimes you can over think these things. Have plenty of fruit, raw veg etc in the fridge and offer it to DC. It’s not a big deal if they accept it or not.
