Potato allergy??

6mo dd was weaned early. I've been introducing veg for two weeks and since I've added white potatoes she's developed a red rash on her cheeks, chin and near her ear. No other symptoms.

She is cutting a tooth but the rash is quite dry, but typical teething. I'll cut it out for a week and see what happens.

Just wondering if anyone has had this with potatoes? Sweet potato is fine.

Anything is possible. Potatoes are a nightshade which do affect some people, but it would be rare (tomatoes, for example, are more likely).

That said, mine always got that sort of rash when teething and also when starting weaning as the wiping after every meal was rough on their skin. Using a proper moisturiser for eczema and sensitive skin helped.

Thank you 😀 I'm hoping it is teething. The tooth has popped through now so will see what happens!

Yes, mine seemed to have that with potatoes for a while, but it passed!

I get a skin reaction to nightshades, particularly tomatoes and raw potatoes. My eldest when weaning had a strong skin reaction to raw tomatoes pretty much as you describe. Also his skin objected to weaning generally, the dampness and frequent wiping was an issue. I used the simplest wipes I could find, and then moved to using cheeky wipes (or a flannel) and used the Aveeno moisturiser afterwards.

Hi my dd was allergic to potatoes when she was younger, she would come out in a red rash just as you are describing about your little one. She was also allergic to Apple, pear and milk but she out grew them by 3 years old. Hope this helps.if you do work out they are allergic to potatoes just keep an eye in a lot of food is potato starch.

After no potato yesterday the rash isn't there today! Her tooth is though! I'll give it a week and will try it again to see what happens. Thank you 😀
