How much water do they need?

My LO has been waning for a month now and all is going well. Likes lumpy mush and is having a go at finger food. Trying to get him to drink water though is a nightmare. He seems to like it and gets very excited when he sees his cup or me drinking from a bottle. But very little seems to go in! I’ve tried about 5 different cups, with valves, without valves, silicon tests, hard ones, holding my water bottle up for him... but a lot of the water just seems to come out again! He’s always been prone to constipation though and obviously weaning does firm things up so im really conscious that he needs some water to help. How much should he be having? Can I give it in a bottle to make sure he actually has some?

If they are still taking plenty of milk then a few sips of water with meals would be plenty.

I just give DS 8 months water from a normal open beaker I just fill it right to the top and he takes a few sips, I offer some at every meal time and after his morning snack. I tried all different cups but
