Spag Bol for baby?

mumyshark · 04/04/2019 17:38

How do you make yours ? we're having spag Bol for dinner tonight and thought I would give my LO some. He's 7 months and has had some from Ella's kitchen and liked it but want to make it for my self. Do I need to use anything different or just what we use ? I've got the low fat mince...and was just planning to add tomato purée, onions and red pepper. Also really worried about giving him spaghetti for the first time!!!
Any advice welcome :)

If you're making it yourself that sounds absolutely fine. You would only need to watch for salt content if you were using stock cubes or jar sauce.

It will be messy, but baby will love it :)

I always just gave mine a bit of ours, just cut the spaghetti a bit shorter. It's great fun :o

Oh good. I'm using dolmio for myself but just planned on giving him chopped tomatoes.
Also just checked and the mince is 5% fat?
Did you use spaghetti or pasta?
Dp has worried me and said that everything has to be blended as he's worried about choking so now so am I Haha!

Are you doing purées or BLW? Just make as you normally would, omitting the salt. I'm doing baby led, so I would use a different lasts shape that holds the sauce and is easy to hold onto, instead of spaghetti. Even if you use a little wine, most of the alcohol will cook off.

We've given our now 2 year old Bolognese since he was 8 months old. I just do onions, very finely diced or grated carrots and celery, garlic, tomatoes, puree and herbs. I used the Boots baby stock until 1 then switched to Kallo low salt. He loves it. Be warned though, it's messy and your baby will turn orange Grin just make sure it's bath night Grin

Have fun!

There's no need to blend it.

I use pasta tubes or fusilli because they are easier for the baby to pick up, but they will have enormous fun with spaghetti.

Thanks guys. I have just made it :)
I cut the spaghetti into small pieces. Hopefully he will like it :)

Just to say you don't have to blend everything! Show your DH the baby led weaning literature so he is on board with this approach and remember not to freak out if she gags a bit - it's a natural reflex and doesn't mean she's choking. Good luck!

@33goingon64 thank you! I have showed him and he has asked why the purées that they sell in the shop are so smooth. I've told him they get more and more lumpy the older the baby gets! Think he's just abit scared! X
