Too much complex carb?

My daughter (nearly 8 months) will tend to have toast once a day - either with hummus for lunch, or peanut butter, scrambled egg on top with butter for breakfast, that kind of thing. If she has it for breakfast she won't have it for lunch though.

But I was thinking she'll often have weetabix or porridge for breakfast instead of toast, and potatoes for dinner often (fish pie, baked sweet potato sticks, beef stew with spuds, that kind of thing).

Is having weetabix, toast and potatoes in one day too much?

I give her fruit and vegetables too along side this of course (banana, peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, aubergine, tomatoes, raspberries, blueberries etc) so it's not just carbs! Lots of chickpeas, tuna, butter beans, peas, sweetcorn too. I use full fat unsalted butter & milk, and sugar and salt free peanut butter.

It's fine. Why wouldn't it be?

Well, that's my question isn't it. Is it balanced enough?

My 10 month old eats about 5 mouthfuls of toast or potato a day and that's IT. Sounds like you're doing really well!

Remember food before 1 is just for fun.

As long as they're getting a variety of tastes and textures that's all that matters!

My son who is also almost 8 months will eat about one spoonful of food per day, usually fromage frais and not much else so sounds perfectly balanced compared to his diet!

Carbs are very important for toddlers.

They’ve become demonised for some silly reason.

I would eat weetabix, toast and potatoes myself in one day so it’s definitely not too much for a baby.

They need a phenomenal amount of energy to grow at this age so I'd try not to worry about the carbs. The only advice I've ever heard about carbs and babies is not to give wholewheat Smile
