From BREAST to COW'S MILK................HOW and WHEN????

I know you're supposed to wait til one year old, but would it make much difference if you do it at 11 mths.
Also how did you all get your babies to stop wanting the boob. IE, she knows that she has boob before bed. Do I just give milk in a cup as I would've the boob and deny boob?? Then just put her in bed.
How long did it take for your lo's to accept this??
DD2 is so stubborn, I think I willl have hell to pay and that she will scream in bed for ages, for weeks before she'll accept no boobs.
Or did you carry on with a night feed/morning feed only, and for how long??

Sorry I have so many questions, and am quite dreading it. But she's a pita with it atm.

Aw BoM, I don't know the answer, but in the same situation nearly.

Sunday morning is pretty quiet, and many 'serious' threads don't get going until they have been bumped once or twice

don't forget people are just on here to unwind sometimes and not to provide data for you

I didn't wean ds and let him decide when he wanted to stop, which turned out to be nearly 4. So I don't think my input is very helpful to you. You don't have to switch to cow's milk aged 1 if you don't want to. If you are dreading it, and think she will scream for weeks, would you consider waiting until she is older?

I meant she is a bit of a biter and still wanting night feeds etc and that I wanted to do it sooner rather than later. I want to move her to her sisters room but can't while she wakes at night so much.
And was just wondering what success anyone else had, and when etc.

It does usually get easier after this very demanding phase, if that helps, and continuing past this can be very rewarding and pleasant, but I do see your point

I am not sure how many people on here will have weaned at the magic age of 1 - I think a lot of people will already have switched to bottles, and a lot of people see no reason to stop yet and kind of muddle on. I am not sure how many people will be able to offer you specific advice?

Oh well, I don't mind muddling on. Would be nice to get my bedroom back tho. She is doing ok with water at night, unless teething or poorly.

I have loved bf ing her so long, she would never take formula anyway, so it was never an option if I had wanted to. I could imagine her being like your ds and loving it til age 4

She's been poorly and screamed for nearly 2 hrs the other night when I gave her water
But if I start going back to feeding her in the middle of the night now, she'll be even worse and i'll have to start all over again. Have been trying for a few weeks now. Can get her to go til 5 now mostly, by either giving water if she cries, or ignoring if she only wakes and moans a bit.
It's so frustrating sometimes.
Must decide one way or t'other as I need a new bra for nursing if I keep going. It is so well worn now as my other one itches me so I only wear it a day while I wash this one

BTW true about buying BM. Look how much formula is FGS. And one tin used to last DD1 about 5 days
Hated bottles, and sterilising. That's why was so determined with DD2 to bf. She has gone totally the other way tho.
Think it's only cos she's not well, but she's been all rooty and wanting it all the time the last couple days.

Hi BOM - Am in the same situation, DD is 10m and will have to have cows milk in the day from 11m when she starts nursery. I checked this out with the BF HV and she said OK as long as I still feed her Morning and night and the days I am at home. She also said she may not take it at first but not to worry as she would make up for it in the evening (back to 2 hourly feeds yuck! I hope not!)

I intend to keep bfing at night until she drops it herself. Whether that it quite soon or until she is 4 I don't know but I will see how it goes. I think I am in the "muddle through" camp Story of my life really

Thanks Ruth. Think she's been a boob hog lately cos she's poorly or teething. Am hoping it's teething, cos she'll start sleeping thru better then.
