Am I worrying for no reason?

My 8 month old is not taking to food, he is showing all the signs of being ready and puts everything but food in his mouth!

Im doing a mix of baby-led and feeding him, but he is more interested in playing/looking intently at it, and turns away when I offer it.
I've tried purees (homemade and ready made), fingerfood, melty crisp-like food, baby rice.

Can anyone advise on ways to get my baby to eat? I'm losing hope 😣I hope some of you can help/have been through it too!

I have an 8mo and we are doing BLW. Anecdotally I've read a lot that suggest it can take until 9-10mo for them to actually start properly chewing and swallowing if following this approach.

My DS barely eats a thing. He will pick up, inspect, sometimes lick food but most of it gets squashed or bashed or thrown on the floor. He will happily chew the plastic clip of his high chair harness though Hmm

I find eating a meal with him helps him to model the behaviour and sometimes try more of what's on offer. Otherwise I think it's just time and patience. In the grand scheme of things 8mo is nothing - barely 10 weeks of practising and learning what food is.

Thank you! I'll try to be more patient and relax in that case. Feeling a lot of pressure on it from people around us which doesn't help!

We actually had a small breakthrough today with banana purée, he took the pouch from me and had a few mouthfuls 😀

We feel the pressure too. Keep getting asked when we are starting on jars and puree from parents and in laws. I do understand their concerns as we were weaned on purees from an earlier age but we just say he's doing great and steer the conversation elsewhere. We let them try to spoon feed him just to prove he will clamp his mouth shut and snatch the spoon... and throw it.

We're about to hit 8 months and my DD isn't interested in eating food either. Turns head away when offered spoon. Grunts and winges a lot in her high chair Sad
