Best baby rice to start a previous colicky baby on

My son is four and a half months and drools incessantly when he sees food, and never seems content from his milk. I want to start weaning him very slowly onto solids through the introduction of babyrice but I’m a bit nervous about his stomach, as he previously suffered badly from colic. Any advice most welcome both in terms of whether I should delay weaning and/or best baby rice to start him on. TIA

Honestly I would just up his milk feeds (quantity and frequency) as these are more calorific and nutritious than baby rice.

Don’t use baby rice pleeease!! It’s awful stuff. Just try a little banana or sweet potato and go from there

Ok I literally just saw that he is 4 and half months!! Don’t give him anything!! Just milk feeds increased. Those are not signs that he is ready! (Much to most Peoples beliefs 🙄)

Drooling at the sight of food is unlikely because he wants it. Could he be teething?

It is recommended that weaning begins at 6 months from which age baby can be offered most food (no honey until 1year).

Weaning early could potentially make his colic worst if his gut is not fully developed for anything other than milk.

How many ounces of milk is he drinking at present?

Either up his milk or change to the hungrier baby formula. In another month or so don’t bother with baby rice, try purée pear or sweet potato.

My first ate baby rice.It was what we did in those days.

Second, whilst making grabs for real food, resolutely refused baby rice. Puzzled, I tasted it.

Taste it.
You'll never consider it a suitable introduction to food again. It's vile.

That’s really helpful all! I will continue breastfeeding and maybe express as well to top up. Thank you!!

No need to express. Just breastfeed more often. It's probably a growth spurt.

What if you fed him more milk? The drooling is more likely to be the start of teething. Teeth start moving down through the gums around then, usually to pop through closer to 5-6 months. If you were to feed early (I wouldn’t personally), offer veg, not baby rice. Some baby rice has high levels of arsenic in it (rice is very high in arsenic) and it’s just nutrition-less mush. That said milk is much higher in calories and nutrients than fruit or veg purée, so if he’s truly hungry, the best thing is more milk.
