Thinking of starting soon, baby is 5 and half months. I’ve done this all before but can’t remember a thing!!! Xmas Grin
Just wondering what is a common starter food? Seem to remember that baby rice was quite horrid

I made carrot puree with milk in, she seemed to love it! Also, parsnip, sweet potato and pea purees. I froze ice cubes of these to make it easier each day. Baby porridge for breakfast, mushed up banana, then as finger food, very soft cauliflour, carrot or a few melty things from Ella's kitchen.

Ds had roti, dp had toasted currant teacake with butter pinched from her brother.

Baby rice made with formula, carrot puree, apple puree, mashed banana - things like that. It was before baby led weaning became the thing.

We skipped the whole purée thing and just gave finger shaped bits of food for the first few attempts. We started just after 6 months do it's ok to do this when they can sit up and grasp things themselves. Ithink the very first bite was a bit of mango, but we basically just gave what we were having but with no salt added. Anything given on a spoon, like porridge, is preloaded and handed to him so he can put it in his own mouth. At age 1 he is now starting to use the spoon himself by slicking it in the bowl and getting porridge out for himself. I say starting, he is very shaky and needs a lot of help! We also introduced a free flow sippy cup when we started weaning.

Mine both pinched fruit. I recall sitting with dd that age on my lap, punnet of strawberries on the table, and looking to find half of them missing and a juice-covered baby.
Weetabix with Greek yoghurt, banana, mashed carrot with cheese, chunky chips.

BlueMoon33 · 16/12/2018 14:28

Watermelon, pea purée, cucumber and bannana were in the first few days

GinIsIn · 16/12/2018 14:32

Cucumber sticks, broccoli, mashed avocado on toast, scrambled egg

Esparadis · 16/01/2019 14:09

Avocado, broccoli, mango were my fave first foods and toast not long after that

TwittleBee · 16/01/2019 14:11

scrambled eggs on toast and tangerine segments!

although prior that first proper start onto solids, DS had pinched food off our plates many times, his first taste of food would have been a roast parsnip i think

about a week later DS joined in with Xmas lunch

EspressoPatronum · 16/01/2019 14:13

Christmas dinner. I think he had mash, broccoli, carrot and chicken.

thismeansnothing · 16/01/2019 14:19

Toast crust 😂

PoutySprout · 16/01/2019 14:25

DD are what we ate. She started with a handful of (stolen) watercress and progressed quickly onto toast with marmite, cheese, steak, fruit cake, pub meals et lc

rubyroot · 16/01/2019 21:43

Tried loads of veg purees and baby wouldn’t have it. In fact didn’t really want many of my homemade purees. So started off with very smooth fruit purees and yoghurt and fruit pouches and then started to make my own very smooth fruit and yoghurt mixed with fruit. He never would eat veg purees. Now at one eats everything in sight and all home cooked. I worried at the time, but needn’t have!

Bunnybigears · 16/01/2019 21:48

Both my DSs absolutely loved baby rice. It used to make me want to vomit!

PoutySprout · 16/01/2019 22:21

Both my DSs absolutely loved baby rice.

I don’t know how its allowed to be sold. Its basically wallpaper paste.

We've just started and started on banana (keep skin on the bottom with some sticking out as it gets slippy fast. She then had chicken risotto for dinner.
