Bamboo bowls

My mum told me that I should not use bamboo plates and bowls for LO as they aren't 'fully cleanable'. Does anyone know if this is true?

Surely that would be a good reason not to use them at all for anyone if true? Who wants to use unclean plates?

If the reason you are asking is because you like the look of the bamboo type plates/bowls that have suction attached for weaning - don't bother they are all crap and won't stop your beloved child flinging food/plates around if they are that way inclined. They are cleanable though.

They are fully cleanable. Do you mean the Bamboo Bamboo ones? They look great but the suction is rubbish and they are not dishwasher safe.

I've got the ones with suction cups and they work really well on the IKEA highchair. Immovable once stuck on. I presume she means because wood is porous and will have tiny imperfections on the surface that can harbour bacteria. So far I really like them, so hope they're OK to use.
