I am confused about how much food my little one should actually be eating each day...at the moment our day goes something like this...

7am - Bottle - 240ml
10am - Fruit
11 am - Bottle - 240ml
3pm - Bottle - 180ml
5pm - Vegetables (now also beginning with some meat/pasta/rice)
7pm - Bottle - 180ml with some riceflour

He has been taking some solids now for the last month and half and yet he seems hungrier than ever for his milk. Now even crying for it earlier than usual...should I begin to introduce some kind of breakfast or lunch?

Any advice would be great...

At that age my bottle timings were pretty much similar to yours but my solids timing were:

8am - breakfast cereal e.g. weetabix, ready brek (ok from 6 months)

12pm - lunch - veg/meat plus fruit puree

5pm - dinner - veg

DS also had a feed at night until around 7.5 months but thankfully has stopped that now.

p.s. a bit of cereal might bulk out the solids a bit more as there are not many calories in the fruit/veg

Thank you....do you make weetabix/ready break with formula?

from 6 months you can use full fat cows milk in cereal, with cooking, etc so thats what I used. You can make it with formula too if you want.

it took a few attempts to get my ds to take them as they had a bit more texture than baby cereals but he takes weetabix in particular very well now. Have you tried any of the baby cereals? The organix ones tend not to have too much added sugar as do some of the Boots own make ones. Most of the others are filled with sugar and maltodextrin so I try to avoid them

My DS is just 7 mths and this is what we do:

7 am - 8 oz bottle
8 am - Baby porridge or similar, mushed up fruit.
12 noon - 5 oz bottle
12.30 - Meal with meat, ie Chicken casserole, Fish Pie etc. Then yoghurt
4 pm - 5oz bottle
4.30 pm - Carb'y meal - Pasta, cauli cheese etc.
7 pm 8 oz bottle.

Have just started giving a bit of finger food to play with - rusks, fi8ngers of cucumber, banana, orange segments to suck on etc

Don't really know if it's right or wrong but DS seems happy, weight gain is about right and that is good enough for me!!!

At 6 months DD was something like this
7am - milk
8:30am - baby porridge
10am - milk
12pm - lunch
2pm - milk
4:30pm - milk
7pm - milk/bed
11pm milk

(also lots during the night but not intentional!)

I introduced a tea about 4-4.30pm at around 7 months I think, and moved her milk back a little.

I would not worry about wanting too much milk. Milk is still the most important source of food at this age so continue to feed as much as your LO wants, and gradually increase the solids as you and your baby feel comfortable. Milk routines do change over time.

Sounds like you are doing it pretty well so far
