6.5 month old baby eating large amounts

My DS is 6 and half months old and weaning is going well. We started on purées but have moved to finger foods as he seems to enjoy being hands on. It was slow at first but suddenly eating has taken off, today he demolished the best part of a whole bannana, a good lot of cucumber for lunch and then a big slice of toast and butter and steamed carrots for tea, I was quite gobsmacked at how much he ate as usually most of it ends up on the floor, and he seemed like he could have carried on eating - is this too much and how easy is it to over feed a baby?

Babies will only eat until they are full. Cucumber is mostly water, and I'd add some protein, because, aside from the banana, there is very little there to fill him up.

Ok, I found egg was bunging him up, but maybe i’ll try some meat or fish, I’m still nervous on choking so food isn’t very exciting at the moment!

I’ve been told babies won’t eat if they’re full, but I’m not fully convinced with my boy!

Good for him - sounds like it’s going really well and he’s cottoned on to what it’s all about. Mine have both been small human dustbins from an early stage and I remember being caught out at about 7 months when the adult-sized sandwich we were sharing on a picnic was nearly entirely eaten by the baby, leaving me ravenous but in awe. I think the advice is to look at food intake over a week not a day, but it’s pretty hard to overfeed them cucumber, I reckon.

Cheese is also good for protein. Mine went mad for it. A small pile of grated cheese is great for fine motor skills, fingers of cheese on toast go down well too.

Thanks for the replies guys, I think weaning has brought out some of my neurotic tendencies!

Yes I like the idea of grated cheese and cheese on toast, will pick some cheese up tomorrow.
