Constipation...

I’ve slowly been introducing solids to my almost 6month old for the last couple of weeks. I stupidly gave him some porridge and blueberries on Friday and he’s been constipated ever since 😞. He’s really uncomfortable and has been pretty miserable for the last few days.

I’ve done tummy massage (this just seemed to give him reflux) and bicycle legs. He’s had water and yesterday he had some mashed dried apricots with pear and then I gave him a couple of spoons of an Ella’s kitchen prune pouch. It doesn’t seemed to have helped. He’s BF and is still having plenty of milk feeds.

Any other magical cures for constipation?? I feel terrible that I’ve done this to him.

Hello 👋, my son also went through this when we started weaving. I used Ella's pouches prunes and it seemed to do the trick. Also I think it just takes a while for their systems to adjust to solids so it may just take a while. My poor DS used to sit and strain away 🤦🏻‍♀️

He will need more than a couple of spoonsfula of prunes.

Thanks scarey, I will carry on with the prunes. I never had this problem with my 1st but he was mainly formula fed so not sure if that makes a difference!

Jack, I’ve been weary about giving him too much food incase it makes it worse but I’ll give him the rest of the pouch now.

If it goes on much longer, go to the GP. We ended up in A&E on a Sat night when my DD was about 11 months because she'd gotten so constipated she was in such a state, she was also vomiting (which turned out was unrelated but can be a symptom of a blockage.) When I phoned 111 for advice, they were quite opinionated about how I had left it so long and told me to take her straight in. She had lactulose and that sorted her out.

I’ve just been in the same situation, I did a pouch a day of prunes for 3 days and then it finally worked this morning, poor little love was starving afterwards!!
