Weaning backwards?!

Hi

My son weaned onto solids really quickly and with no bother, using a mix of purées and finger foods. However since he hit 8 months, he just seems to be totally going backwards with it.

Overnight he just seemed to go from having 3 meals and a snack, as well as his usual 21-24oz milk, to the same amount of milk and barely any food. Most days it’s a struggle to get him to eat even one meal. If we’re lucky the most he will have is a yoghurt, a few raspberries and few spoons of a meat based purée.

We’re at the point now where I feel we’ve exhausted all options and I just don’t know what to do. He doesn’t really wake in the night so he can’t be going hungry.

I’m back at work in 3 weeks and the MIL is starting to ask what his feeding routine is and I don’t know what to even say!

Is there anything I’m missing? Or something new I can try?

I’d cut cut lack on the solids then. The current advice is to build up to offering food 3 times a day between 8 and 9 months. If you’re offering 4 times a day he’s probably just not hungry. I’d cut back to twice, three times at the most.

Just keep doing what you're doing. It will pick back up eventually. My first one went through a spell at 9 months when she wanted nothing. She literally ate banana and yogurt for a month. I just kept offering though. Then one day, it passed and she ate half a small quiche in one sitting! Then she was off eating loads and lots of variety again. It's just one of those phases.

he might be teething, mine went off food when teething.

How long has it been? the other possibility is he is under the weather.

In terms of routine, just offer solids three times a day but dont worry if he doesnt eat. Let him eat with you if possible.

Cod he be teething? Or just eating less because their growth drops off at that age? Mine ate less at that age, and then picked back up later when she was more mobile and running around all day.

What do you mean, he wouldn’t go without the bottle?
