Weaning - Sudden Refusal?!

Hi all. I’m just looking for some reassurance really (first time mum and constantly worrying)... my son has been diagnosed with silent reflux and we started weaning a week ago. I’ve been giving him veggies puréed with my milk. For the first week he’s been loving it, absolutely lapping it up! Then suddenly on Sunday morning the spoon was met with tightly sealed lips. This was the case for both offerings on Sunday, Monday and today. What should I do? Do I keep offering or stop for a while? I should add that he’s 5 months and an extremely fussy breastfeeder. He actually fed better from me when he was taking the solids as his reflux was improved. I’d really appreciate any advice! Thanks.

Teething? DS2 didn't want to eat when he was teething. He was older, because he was eating the Ella's Kitchen Cheerios type cereal, but he suddenly started refusing everything he had to chew, so he was on baby porridge, mash etc.

Possibly. He's only ever had purées though - could teething even put him off this? He won't even let the spoon in his mouth. He holds his lips closed before even tasting what's in the spoon! It was so sudden too - one meal he loved and the next he wouldn't let the spoon enter his mouth. I'm just panicking that we'll have problems weaning as breastfeeding has been a constant battle and I'd hoped weaning would signal a change!

Maybe it's the feel of the spoon? Or the temperature? Try giving it to him cold?

Or maybe he's got a sore throat?

Tried a couple of times today with different temperatures. Also tried giving him Calpol in case it is due to teething. What now? Do I pause with weaning for a while? I'm not sure! Thanks for your help!

I think I'd probably ring the health visitor for advice. It could be a sore throat. Keep bfing, because he should be getting all his nutrition from milk at this age anyway, he's just trying solids. Also, thinking of what DD said to me today, she's got a cold, and chocolate ice cream just tastes of sweet ice because her nose is blocked. Has he got a cold?

Am I really the only person on MN who's seen this thread?

I do appreciate you replying. He doesn't have a cold. I'll check in with the HV!

Best of luck, I hope you get to the bottom of it! 😁
