Oxo cubes for 6mo?

My DS is just turned 6 months and we’re starting BLW properly today. I’ve only gone and put an Oxo cube in the slow cooker! So used to just doing it.

Is it too much salt for him? I’m happy to steam him some broccoli or green beans instead.

It’s chicken, rice, peppers, onion and broccoli if that makes a difference to BLW. No added salt other than Oxo cube.

I used to use Boots baby stock cubes for DS1 but totally forgot.

As a one off I'm sure itll be fine. Can't keep them off salts and sugars their whole life! Like it's recommended not to give DC food with any kind of seasoning. Well my ds has nutmeg or cinnomon with porridge has since he was much younger!

I'm sure it's fine. If it was me I'd probably try to rinse/scrape the sauce off but that's probably unnecessary.

I've bought the reduced salt ones and still cook with them. I make such large batches of chilli/spag bol etc,and LO doesn't eat a lot.normally get 8-10 portions

As a once off, fine. Those boots baby stock cubes are full of crap though, I'd stay clear.

I used to use a tiny amount of marigold Swiss bouillon powder - you can get a reduced salt one if you want - but I was more interested in cutting down than cutting out entirely.

Use some flavourings instead

hiddeneverything · 19/09/2018 22:58

Nah it's fine

There are 0.95g of salt in 100ml of stock when made up according to pack instructions. Each cube makes 190ml (let’s say 200 for quickness) - so your slow cooker meal contains about 2g of salt. How many portions does it contain? If it’s, say, 4 adult portions then baby would probably get 1/2 if one? Which is 0.25g. Babies are allowed up to 1g of salt per day.

They will eat such a small portion it will be fine

NinjaTurtleMikey · 24/09/2018 01:13

@fartnisseverbeans that’s really helpful thank you. It makes about 6 portions so even as a one off it’s really nothing.

The rice absorbed almost all of the liquid anyway and he just had some chicken chunks and broccoli. Think he only actually ate the broccoli and even then it’s not much

Thank you 😊
