Finger foods

Unsure what finger foods to give my 6 month old. She's been having pouches since she was 4 months old and I've been spoon feeding but want to do a bit of both. I gave her some banana and she choked and I was very worried so really unsure what to give her. She currently has baby porridge in the morning and then will also have something for tea time too along with her bottles. Thanks

If she choked that must have been worrying. Lots of babies gag when they have solids but they can choke on purees too. How did you stop her choking?

Lots of things can be finger foods, they are even easier if you cut them into chip size pieces. How about things like pears, peach, plum, watermelon. Maybe try things like roast veg, sweet potato wedges, cooked pasta?

Yeah I was really worried but my partner picked her up and she was sick but wasn't really fazed!

I'm going to buy a blender and give her what we have but still want her to learn to feed herself x

Chunky pasta, sweet potato wedges and toast/bread is good for them to feed themselves... it's mainly just them gunming on it at this stage but she will eat something eventually x

Oh and cinnamon and raisin bagels spread with butter always went down well in our house Smile

There’s a link here on gagging and choking and some information on what to do in an emergency Smile

I weaned my lb at 4 months, he's now 6.5months. He has lumpy puree/7 month jars. The only finger food I've tried is toast, broccoli, carrots, watermelon, ellas kitchen crisps, kiddylicious wafers, crossaint, potato, omelette, cod, baked beans smushed. So far the only things he likes is watermelon, toast, beans and the ellas kitchen and kiddylicious stuff.

Broccoli
Toast fingers (my 6 month old loves them with hummus)
Anything you can cut into sticks and roast so carrots, parsnips, sweet potatoes, normal potatoes, courgettes, etc.
Big chunky pasta (without sauce to start, it's very slippery, but easier to grasp if plain)
Pancakes
Any sort of stone fruit, halved with stone removed is great too.
Whatever healthy things you're eating that aren't a choking hazard really. My 6 month old ate a bit of my salami , chicken and rocket sandwich for lunch today.
