Can baby rice cause an upset tummy?

Since starting on baby rice yesterday my ds (5 months) has been suffering from a really sore tummy culminating in a "poo explosion" about half an hour ago! He seems to be much happier now, but I wondered if its just coincidence or whether anyone else has had a similar experience?

Should I stop the rice and try veg?

Thanks

could be - would leave it for now and get him stuffed full of milk

when you do wean there is no need to use baby rice - it is like wallpaper paste but less appetising

The texture and frequency of poo may well change and it takes a while for them to get used to it , so not an upset tummy in itself, or maybe his gut isn't ready yet. If you are concerned forget weaning adn try again in a week or two, veg will probably do the same if multicoloured !

i would stop weaning for now, and carry on with milk...and have a look at www.babyledweaning.com...no need for baby rice, puree or mush !

might be coincidence, but will do no harm to go back to milk only for a bit longer

My DD now 6.5months threw up whenever I put baby rice in anything. Baby rice is an ideal weaning food for the baby food manufacturers.

Thank you all for your replies, and for the website link.

Think I will leave it for now, and review the options in a couple of weeks.
