Baby is 6 months and has only been eating food for about ten days. The first week was fine - he had baby rice, soft veg with a tiny bit of chicken and beef blended in, and soft fruit mushed up. He didn’t swallow much but was opening his mouth and grabbing the spoon.

However, the last few days he won’t eat anything! I put him in the high chair and when he sees the bib coming he starts to go YAYAYAYA!! and leans back in his chair looking terrified. He clamps his mouth shut and won’t take the spoon. He’s still having breast milk as normal. Help?!

Relax a bit, cut up some normal.food.into chip size pieces, put it on the high chair tray and let him get on with it. Weaning is a marathon not a sprint.

Stop offering for a bit. Put a few bits of finger food within reach. Relax. There's no rush.

@DamsonPue totally agree with the PP. How are you getting on now?

Whoops, that’s should be @DamsonPie Blush

Still not doing well. Baby won’t open his mouth for the spoon. He sits happily in the high chair any other time but cries when he’s sitting there being fed. He has a couple of spoonfuls (with great difficulty) then screams blue murder until I lift him out of the chair. I’ve tried giving him some small bits of fruit and potato but he just ignored them.

DD2 was exactly like this. Week 1 of spoonfeeding was fine. Week 2 and 3 were disaster and she refused everything point blank. In the end she wanted to go the blw route and we had more success.

To be honest in the end the thing that worked was taking her out of the highchair on occasion. I sat her on my lap and she was fine. Even now at 2yo she hates being constrained with food and eats less at the table than anywhere else. She actually twitches in her highchair, as she does in her buggy.

YEah, we had a total spoon refuser too and ended up going down the BLW route. The first one would have happily have let me spoon feed him for years had I been daft enough.

My oldest was like this. She just wasn’t ready so we gave it a breK until she started eyeing the food going into our mouths at mealtimes. That was probably 6 weeks later, maybe more.
Just relax, forget about what the books/ health visitors etc say and listen to your baby.
My dd is now 13 and nearly 6 feet tall so she’s done ok in the growing stakesGrin
