Refusing solids

I have been feeding 6 month old for 3 weeks, he will accept very tiny amounts of purée from my finger, but totally refuses spoon. Any advice on how to get him to take spoon? Feel really disheartened as LO has refused bottle, dummy and is terrible sleeper - was hoping he would take to solids at least, everything feels a struggle

Hi OP, my DS is 9 months and only took to solids 2 weeks ago.he is also a bottle and dummy refuser so I sympathize!

6 months is still early, he will get there and tiny amounts are fine for now.

To be honest DS still isn't keen on a spoon, we only really got going when I went to finger foods and now he is scarfing down everything in sight!

My DD was exactly the same, didn't really eat any solids until 8 or 9 months. She's now 3 and a fantastic eater.

My advice is don't worry about it. They don't need it at this age it's just trying things. With my LG she wouldn't try anything so we left it a week and then tried again. After a few weeks she realised that she likes some of the textures and tastes and then she was off. Don't put pressure on yourselves. You don't see any 10 year olds only drinking milk. X

Oh and one tip that might work is give him his own spoon. My Ds will only take a spoon if he also has a spoon in his other hand!

Don't bother?

Give finger foods and put a few loaded spoons on the high chair tray. Some babies just don't like being fed and want to DIY, an breastfed babies are used to controlling their own eating.

One of mine refused anything solid until 9 months as well. DS1 would eat anything and DS2 only fingers foods.

I'd try finger foods and then if no joy just give up for a couple of weeks. There's no point stressing about it, your LO will get there eventually.
