Sophie la girafe teether - gap in rubber?

I was gifted a Sophie la Girafe teether - the one with the 2 handles - but my 5 month old has only used it for a few minutes at a time about 4-5 times.
I was about to give it to her today but on washing it I noticed in the top handle there seems to be part, about the width of my little finger, that now feels hollow. The rest is firm. There is no visible hole. Don't remember if it felt like that before so wanted to check with someone who has one.

Does anyone have one they could check? I'm not sure it's safe to give to DD as I'm worried it might split.
