Since we started weaning I've been giving LO meals, snacks etc in place of bottles... Over a slow time frame.

I've since read that LO should be taking food on top of normal bottles! My LO would literally not have room for this. She takes a good breakfast, and some milk, then it's fruit and a drink for lunch, two 6-8oz bottles over the afternoon followed by steamed veg for dinner and 8-10oz milk at supper. Occasionally she will take a biscuit snack in the afternoon. She's not lost weight but her weight gain has slowed. She was 20lbs or so at last weigh in.

Should I be encouraging more milk, or dropping some meals?

I'm going a little blind with this as we don't have a HV and haven't since start of the year.

Hi Op,
In theory my understanding is food is complementary, however some babies start eating quicker than others. My little girl is 9 months and is now eating bits and pieces not much and was never a big milk drinker and still takes around 5 bottles still at approx 90-180mls max. If they drop below 500mls (approx half a pint) then the guidance is to offer vitamin drops A,C,D. Now your little one is 7 months might be good to introduce some protein (meat and fish). I offer both salmon and mackerel during the week which gets nibbled at. Someone told me the palm of their hand is equivalent to 1 meal. I think just follow your babies lead, I was hoping we would be on less bottles but then I looked at how much milk she was consuming over a day rather than the amount of bottles. She's just a grazer and doesn't take large amounts.

They are all different! Some of mine moved food and dropped milk (2 gave up milk altogether around 11 months) 2 were milkholics and took a long long time to drop mill feeds.

A minimum of 20oz is recommended from 6 months to 1 year so as long as they are having that they should be ok

Thanks all.

She just loves her food, but isn't keen on meat which is what we are trying to work on. Definitely a sweet tooth with her fruits. Occasionally she'll take blended chicken but rarely.

With the milk that's her main fluid intake so I alway offer it but feel I'm wasting a lot as she'll take the food offered first.

Never seems hungry tho so Im taking that as okay! Roughly she's 20-23oz formula a day.

My 8 month old is the same. Don’t worry. If she wasn’t having enough milk she’d let you know.
Sounds like you’re doing an amazing job. My girl has just started taking savoury so don’t worry it comes. Try cow and gate chicken and sweet squash.

Oh that's a good idea, I'll get some when I'm next at the shop.
