So how much does your 10 month old eat?

Weaning with my DS has been very up and down but it seems to have settled into a good routine now and I just wondered if he was getting enough food.

His typical routine is as follows:

First thing - approx 8 oz of milk
Breakfast - 5 dessertspoons of ready brek made with 4oz of milk
Mid-morn - breadstick
Lunch - half a jar of Stage 2 food/home-made food followed by pudding (yoghurt, fruit puree, rice pudding etc)
Mid-pm - whole banana
Tea - i round of sandwiches (usually either philly, peanut butter or cheese and mayo)
Bedtime - approx 8oz of milk

I know every child is different but he was drinking about 30oz of milk upto a week ago and then overnight, just refused to drink his mid-morning and afternoon bottle - so I have substituted snacks but am worried now that he is not getting enough food etc.

Does it sound enough?

Sorry - forgot to add at teatime he has the sandwiches plus another pudding (either fruit puree pot or yoghurt)

Hi my 11 mth old seemed to stop drinking a lot of milk all of a sudden, but she seems fine so I'm not worrying.

she has
8am - 5min bf
9am - 1 and half weetabix in full fat milk, 1 yoghurt, few bits of fruit and quarter piece toast and butter
12.15 - a meal of some kind ie. 1 scrambled egg/ pasta with few veggies/toast cheese and tomatoes, a fruit pot thing, piece of apple, a custard cream biscuit,
4.45 - tea, similar to lunch, diff. type of meal and pud though.

in between meals sometimes a bit of breadstick, she eats well I think

Tatties · 19/05/2007 19:28

He's eating a lot more than my ds at that age! I would just keep offering milk and meals and let him take as much as he wants - appetites do vary a lot

VoodooMama · 19/05/2007 19:29

she drinks water with all meals BTW, she doesnt really like drinking cows milk, so has it hot on weetabix and 1-2 yoghurts a day, coupled with 5 min bf I hope its enough!!

mummynumnum · 19/05/2007 20:13

DD (11mths) has a similar appetitie to yours voodoo. i am sometimes amazed by how much she eats. She still bf two or three times a day, but for nowhere near as long a she used to.

nickytwotimes · 19/05/2007 20:15

ceebee, my ds is nearly 10 mo and appears to be eatibg the same as yours. reassuring for me

Ceebee74 · 19/05/2007 20:19

Thanks for the reassurances here - Nicky, good to know that your DS is eating similar amounts.

I am a bit worried as I have repeated the 'food is fun until they are 1' mantra over and over again during the difficulties we had whilst weaning - but now, that has gone out the window as he is not drinking much milk!

my lo doesn't drink a great deal of milk - maybe 12-14 0z every 24 hrs, so i make one of his puddings loads of yogurt with pureed fruit or banana which he loves. maybe yours is like mine and weaning himself off milk! they are meant to have the equivilant of 1 pint a day in dairy products so yours sounds like he is doing fine.

kbaby · 19/05/2007 21:00

Ceebee,
Sounds similar to DS. He has

8am- 6 ozs milk
9am- 1 weetabix with milk
12pm- half jar of 2nd stage size or similar portion of homemade food followed by a small pot of yogurt
3pm- 5 ozs milk
5pm- half jar of food and organix fruit purree
7.30pm 7 ozs milk
12am- 3 ozs milk.

If he eats finger food then he hardly eats anything, maybe half sandwich.

lorisparkle · 19/05/2007 22:58

Mmmm, I think mine eats like a horse so here goes...

7am - bf (who knows how much)
8am - 2 desertspoonfuls of readybrek with boiled water, tsp of purree to stop it being bland, a banana and maybe a little toast or some more food if still hungry
10.30 - maybe a bf if keen
11am - some dried fruit and a couple of rice cakes / breadstick
12.30 - whatever I am having - don't know how much I just keep giving him more - then some fruit (a whole pear, or a satsuma, or whatever is in the house)
3.30 - a bf if keen
4pm - same as other snack
5.30 - whatever we are having - as above
7pm - another bf
3.30am - another bf!!!

I think my DS eats about the same as yours at the moment kbaby. Not quite as much as yours CB. He has milk in the morning, mid afternoon and bedtime - 7 oz bottles of which he usually takes around 6 oz. He used to be really good with his food but since he's been poorly on and off it's now a lot more up and down. Tonight for instance, he just played with his dinner and wouldn't eat anything - not even the broccoli which he normally loves.

The books I have suggest that babies often go through a phase like this around now. Doesn't stop me worrying though (especially since he's hardly put on any weight since the end of March )

Thanks ladies for your comments. Sounds as if my DS is doing ok.

Twinkle - if it makes you feel better, DS weigher 18lb 5oz in January and has never been above that since - he has fallen below it a couple of times through illness but never gone above it (he has dropped 2 percentiles now). However, last time I got him weighed was 7 weeks ago and he was, you've guessed it, 18lb 5oz - but he has eaten well and not been sick that often since then so I am taking him tomorrow and am hoping he may actually weigh more than 18lb 5oz

My 10 mth old has: 8am: b/f 9am: whole banana, slice of toast, hard boiled egg or some shreddies with cow's milk 12.30pm: Jacket spud with tuna, mayo and sweet corn, fruit 2.00pm b/f 5.00pm: pasta with sauce, or fish with veggies and potatoes, more fruit, yoghurt. 7.00pm b/f and 11pm b/f - yep he's a little piggy

lorisparkle · 20/05/2007 22:04

Although my lo eats like a horse, my friends baby eats very little and is not gaining much weight but he is doing so many things my lo is not doing (saying mama, clapping his hands, among others) so I think that every child is different.

VoodooMama · 21/05/2007 10:04

yeah, nothing to worry about !!
