Tried purees but DD gets bored being fed I think after about 3 spoonfuls. She can put the food in her mouth with the spoon and definitely likes feeding herself. Tried BLW three days in a row so far, she really enjoys it but tends to gag a bit but eventually some of it goes in. But it all ends in tears when she gags and then vomits everything she has up. She has just turned 6 months - has been able to sit up since 5 months and is very good eating with her hands. Should I keep trying and she will stop being sick?

DH read the NCT newsletter about BLW and wanted to try it but now thinks she won't ever get any food inside her!

aaah, but she will, because you're not cutting back on her milk and that's her primary source of nutrition...
it's learning curve, you know. they need to be given time to self-feed, and 3 days is nothing in the scheme of things. remember, at the moment she's just exploring the food, and her mouth and her gag reflex as well. keep trying, give her as much milk as she wants and you'll be flying in no time.

Tapster, it was ages before my dd got the hang of eating. And even now she is one, some days she does nothing but eat and others she doesn't eat a thing. I know its easier said than done but try not to worry. Food at this stage isn't really about nutrition, its about them getting the hang of it, and getting used to it and exploring new tastes.

also, someone once gave me a very good piece of advice... don't 'count up' your baby's food, but if you must, count it over a week, not a day.
