Breastfeeding to formula

For various reasons I have decided to move my 10month old on to formula after being ebf.

I have managed to successfully introduce a mid afternoon 7oz bottle but don’t know where to go next.

She does feed to sleep at night but will go down for naps in her reclined pushchair or with my husband rocking her.

I was hoping once she started having formula she would happily give up breastfeeding but this doesn’t seem to be the case.......

Does anyone have experience of this? Or advice on what I should do next...

Our day looks like this(ish)
6am wake and feed
8:30am breakfast
9:30am -11am nap
11 - play
12- lunch
1:30 bf and out
3pm 7oz formula
5:30 dinner
7:30 bf and bedtime

I think the current advice is to drop one feed every 2 weeks. This is to get LO used to the larger volumes they need to drink and to reduce your risk of mastitis.

I’d decide whether you want to drop the first feed or the bedtime feed next. I suppose it depends on if your DH will get up with her sone morning and give her a bottle or if you want a few nights out. Once you’ve dropped one of those, leave it a couple of weeks and drop the other.

From what you’ve said she’s only having one other bf in the day and with a bit of jigging around of the other feeds, she may drop that one naturally anyway.

I introduced formula at just over 9 months as couldn’t express. I didn’t both sticking to any real pattern and found my body adjusted fine.

I swapped daytime feeds to formula first, then have been working on swapping the first one of the day though he’s just started waking up at 5 and a bottle won’t currently get him back to sleep. Argh. Teething though, so seem to have gone backwards. I did have success before.

He’s nearly 11 months and I’ve reduced to bedtimes and emergencies. Back onto first feed of the day at the moment but try to offer formula first.

Good luck!
