From breast to open cup?

Have any mumsnetters gone from breast feeding to using an open cup like a doidy cup or similar? Struggling a bit with getting my lo to take anything bar an ounce here and there from bottles but on a whim today tried a tiny porcelain cup I have in the house and she seemed to love it! Just wondering what others experiences of similar cups are- am I missing any massive cons? Also do open cups need to be sterilised? Thanks

Bumping for you OP because I'd also love to know!

I introduced lidded sippy cups alongside breastfeeding, never used bottles at all. If your baby is over 6 months I wouldn't bother with sterilizing any cups. Dishwashing is fine.

@AssassinatedBeauty thanks for the advice. Can I ask, if you're not still breast feeding how did you get your baby to remove the comfort element of feeding once they got the hang of the cup?

Dd used to steal from my pint glass of water from about 8mo. We used lidded sippy cups and valved cups just to reduce spillage.

My ds went from boob to doidy cup. I'm still feeding him at night. I just skipped the bottle stage because he wasn't interested but drinks really well from a doidy.

My DS is 23 months and I'm still breastfeeding, although not very often and not for comfort really.

How old is your baby?

Teachtolive · 26/04/2018 20:17

She's 6 months and I'm just at a point with the breast feeding now where I'm exhausted by it. I was initially thinking it would be bittersweet to let it go but it hit me like a tonne of bricks the other day that for personal reasons as well as practical ones I just want it to be finished.

I should add that while she is slurping up plenty out of the doidy cup (got one after posting and she loves it!) she still needs a breastfeed before every nap/bedtime
