Am I doing enough re weaning?

My ds is nearly 7mo been weaning since 5mo. Mostly purée 1 x a day but had moved onto 2 x a day with things like yoghurt, weetabix all from
Spoon, he would happily open his mouth for the spoon. I then introduced banana toast those crispy puff things which he was getting some into his mouth, all was going well. Still kept the purees. Then just recently he got very constipated and even though that’s now all clear, he’s done a complete u turn and refuses the spoon, clamps his mouth shut turns his head even for things he previously loved. Will take things by hand but mostly plays with it and doesn’t end up in his mouth. Will try to grab the spoon but just ends up waving it about and though he does end up with it in his mouth by that time what was on the spoon is on the floor walls etc. I don’t know what to do, I don’t want to keep at it with the spoon when he’s not interested but he’s also not taking anything doing BLW either. Will he go back to the spoon eventually could it be a little phase? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Sorry OP but in my experience, he might not go back to the spoon. My DD refused the spoon completely from the beginning.

Are you sure he’s not eating any finger foods? Sometimes it looks like they are just chucking it around but the nappies would suggest otherwise Smile

Have you tried two spoons? Give him a loaded one that he can —-wave about and throw on the floor— feed himself and while he does that, see if he will open his mouth for a spoonful from you with the second spoon.

My DS1 never took the spoon from me again from6 months. He and I had a quick learn on how to get calories in!
Toast with anything!
Bread dipped into very thick soup.
Hard boiled egg chopped up.
Fruit
Veg
Penne with tomato sauce
Etc
He learned very quickly after a few weeks of getting thin. He had also given up breast and never had a bottle so was using a beaker or drink with a straw .
He ate at the table with his sister mainly but all of us at lunch and weekends and copied.

Thank you I’ve been offering the spoon very gently at each mealtime but still he turns his head away HOWEVER the blw approach is improving and gradually more and more is going in. I’ll try the double spoon trick thank you @jilted.

Thank you for those meal ideas some of those I hadn’t thought of especially the thick soup with toast as he has got the hang of toast. I could of used the purees I made up but I threw them all away this morning Angry

Can you try giving him his own spoon to play with? Our DD just wanted to know what was going on with the spoon and to shake it about - giving her her own kept her interested and distracted while we snuck our spoon in with the food on!

I'd ditch the purees, at 7m they really don't need purees and actually need proper food to ensure their jaw muscles develop properly for speech.
