22 week (5month) to wean or not to wean

I know there will be some by the book mums that shoot me down for this as my DS is not 26 week (6months), but I was wondering peoples thoughts and advice/recommendations etc

DS is showing so mich interest in food, and even tries to sneak a bite whilst im eating with him on my knee. I just know his mind is ready but is his digestive system?

My notes are:
Everything he touches goes in his mouth! could just be sensory exploration or teething

He has reflux! How will this affect his weaning?

Sitting! He can sit, hold his head whilst held and unaided for a short time

Sleep! He usually sleeps 11:30pm to 5am so not really waking due to hunger

Milk feeds! These still seem to settle him taking around 6oz every 3hrs up to 11pm

Also:
Dd was weaned at around 18 week (guidlines were different back then please don’t judge) and she is excellent with her food she will eat and try any foods, I havent found a food she doesn’t like other than fried rubbish that seem to be on all children’s menus (but thats a rant for another time, how rubbish kids menus are)

Thanks in advance x

My DD was weaned at 23 weeks because she demonstrated she was ready by taking a sandwich and eating it!

I think if he is meeting the signs of readiness, I’d try him with a couple of pieces of steamed brocolli. If he can’t pick it up himself and get it into his mouth, he’s not ready.

After all the guidelines aren’t exactly six months, they are when they meet the signs of readiness, which is usually 6 months.

Sorry to comment on an old thread but did you try to wean op?

DD is 22 weeks also and is showing signs she's ready to wean. She is staring at everything when we eat also and watches every bite!

I do really want to wait until 6 months but she is really showing sign she's ready, can sit up unaided for a short time etc.

Just wondering what your experience was? Smile

Hi Firstly let congratulate you on your amazing user name Smile

My DS is now 24 weeks and I have been weaning him since I posted this. I started on 1-3 spoonfuls of baby rice first 1-2 times a day. Then after a few days tried him with fruit puree which he wasn't a fan of. I then tried him with savory purees (advocado, broccoli carrots etc) which he wolfs down. He is doing really well and his reflux has improved too x

Hi MrsC2012x

That's great he is doing well & it's helping his reflux! I remember my sister weaning dn who had bad reflux and she was petrified to try it, so glad all is going well Smile

I've just been shopping and have come home armed with bowls, spoons, an Ellas kitchen book & a couple of jars - I think I'm going to be brave and give it a try!

I'm generally a stick to the books kind of person but I really do think she is ready, it's just so daunting!

Thank you for replying, it makes it better to hear from others weaning early rather than just being told to wait until 6 months! x
