The Switch from Breastmilk to Cows Milk

DD is nearly 10 months and I intend to stop bfeeding at a year and give cows milk twice a day from a beaker. I currently give her water in a beaker to get her used to it. She has never had a bottle. She has cows milk now on cereal and in cooking (i.e cheese sauce).

Two questions - it wouldnt hurt if I gave her cows milk at 11 months would it? I am due for a night out (first one) and I really can't bear to express.

Secondly - is there an alternative to cows milk that is just as or more nutritious? I see Rice Milk/Soya Milk etc. but dont know enough about them.

Mixed responses on a thread I started with a similar question, but the advice used to be that cows' milk was fine from 6 months so personally I would say go for it, and in fact have been giving dd the odd slurp of cows' milk from 7 months.

It won't hurt to give her cow's milk on your night out as a one off, but for every night, wait until she's one year old.

At the age of one you can:
carry on breastfeeding
give cow's milk
give 'growing up' milk if you think that is better for your child.

I don't think soya milk is recommended for such a young age.
