Black bits in sweet potatoes?

Dh cooked some sweet potatoes for ds and while mashing them I noticed black bits in them.He says he cut out the bits near the surface.
Anyone know if these bits are OK to eat as I don't think I can pick them out(too many) or shall I just throw it all away?

Taste it, if it tastes fine then don't throw it out. If it tastes a bit purfumey then might be better to throw it out, usually happens with older sweet potatoes, but I don't think it is actually harmful, just tastes horrible IMO.
