About to start weaning my DS.

Was just wondering - what does everyone replace cows milk in cooking with?

I read on the NHS website that replacements like almond milk shouldn’t be used until after a year old. Is that just for drinking or cooking too?

Shall I use his prescription formula as the milk replacement in food too?

I was a bit nervous about weaning before he was diagnosed, so this has made it even more worrying!

I think the NHS advice only applies to milk substitutes as a drink, i.e. Don't give it in his bottle. Should be fine for cooking. I don't know if you're supposed to avoid soya milk though? Maybe another poster can clarify.

I wouldn't fancy cooking with formula at all TBH, never mind prescription stuff! I never used formula in cooking.

Whichever milk sub you are using is fine for cooking/porridge etc. The guidelines just mean it can't replace formula/breast milk as main milk source yet. Oat milk and oat cream are good if you are avoiding soy too

@weaningwoe Don’t worry too much there’s lots of things baby can have. Have you started yet? Smile

Started about 3 weeks ago - slowly! Don’t know why I worried, he’s completely uninterested. Resisting the urge to start purée!

Alternative milks are fine in food from 6 months. We use Oatly as highest in fat etc. (we’re soya free too).
