Too much food too soon?

Is 3 meals a day too much for an almost-7mo?

He's currently having porridge on a morning and food at around 5pm which he thoroughly enjoys.

He's fast losing interest in his bottles, other than at nap time and bed time to soothe him.

Is introducing lunch at this stage too much do you think?

No it's fine. Both mine had three meals from 6 months onwards.

Small meals to be sure and still with milk inbetween...but they liked their dinners! Mine are 13 and 9 and healthy, slim kids.

If he’s enjoying his food then go for it; I had my DD on three meals quite quickly as she took to her food really well. Some babies take a bit more time.

I agree - it is absolutely fine. DD was on 3 meals from 6 months. She also drank lots of milk but if she hadn't, I wouldn't have been worried.

The only reason why some health care professionals recommend a minimum daily milk intake of 500mls is because it removes the need for vitamin supplements. If a baby consumes less than 500mls, he/she will need extra vitamins A, C and D:

It’s not entirely true that the only thing he will need is a vitamin supplement. You will also need to replace the fat and calcium if he’s not getting enough milk. It’s for this reason that the NHS recommend moving to 3 meals between 8 and 9 months Smile

Agree but the fat and calcium can (and eventually should) come from a "balanced diet". NHS recommendations are actually quite broad and they do not suggest that a baby cannot be on 3 meals before 8-9 months (assuming they are having balanced and healthy meals). This is just an average timeframe for most of the babies who "move gradually to having 3 meals":
