Can you give sausages to a 9month old?

Where can I get sauasages that aren't full of crap and salt?

Making my own is not an option. Too fiddly and time consuming...

Anyone?

Sausages by definition are full of crap, but Waitrose or Tesco Finest have less crap than most IME.
Remember kids can get away with more fat than we can.

Go for ones with high meat content. Poncey sausages better.
May struggle with the skin. Maybe the give the innards with no skin, or find skinnless ones.

Have just studied back of Teso finest sausages, and they have quite a high salt content.

They seem to be such an ideal finger food. What about sausage meat? Is that full of crap and salt as well?

how about asking local butchers to make some pork into sausage meat, i know they can mince it, maybe they can do that too, if you tell them its for baby?

I really dont think its a prob in small amounts myself, just a little once in a while. And you are obviously being careful not to buy anything with too much awful things added, nothing cheap. Just make sure its well cooked throughout (no different to usual there tho...)

DD has had some of daddy's a few times, in sizes she can hold as finger food, and loves it.

I think in truth what people are trying to say is that sausages by definition are full of pigs arseholes and fingernails. ergo why would you feed that to your beautiful baby?

if an animal is killed for food, is it not best to eat all of it? If it tastes good? Otherwise the animal is wasted...

Great point. I don't know why such things are frowned upon. Why not eat a pigs arsehole? Why is it rubbish? Is it a cultural thing? Is it the arsehole itself or other ingredients? Why makes it nutritionally rubbish?

My DD would live on sausages if I let her. She bloody loves 'em. But they are high in salt and nitrates. So maybe give occasionally? Tescos Organic ones are great, no preservatives, but they are not always available in my local one and are quite big chunky sausages, not little chipolata type ones.

And apparently it's better to cut them lengthwise into strips rather than across into circles as they are less likely to get stuck in windpipes.

Why not go to a farmers market/farm shop or local butcher if there is one near you - likely to get tastier sausages with less rubbish in them, and you are supporting a local business at the same time rather than Mr.FatCatTesco. Guessing they are still likely to have salt etc in them though, so still not a particularly healthy option

.... my 8 month old dd was given her first sausage at a family party at the weekend.... Granny decided it was time for her to learn about canapes!!!! Cocktail sausage was a good finger food, and she seemed to like it a lot.... despite my reservations, I just got the response "i'm her granny, I'm allowed to...." hmmm....

I think the Prince of Wales makes sausages. He and Camilla read the pigs bed time stories every night.
