What’s wrong with tap water? How old is your baby?

ImAMarshmellow · 13/01/2018 16:49

If they are under 6 months cooled boiled water. If they are over 6 months tap water will be fine

He's 6 months. Can I not give mineral water

Some mineral waters aren’t suitable for babies.

TittyGolightly · 13/01/2018 19:00

Mineral water generally has higher levels of sodium (salt) than tap water.

Why would you give mineral water instead of tap water? As a pp said, the salt levels are generally higher in bottled water than tap water.

If you look at the NHS guidelines on mineral consumption and compare it to the mineral content of the vast majority of bottled waters you'll find that they're generally nowhere even approaching unsafe. In fact Evian is specifically marketed for babies in France (hence the rollerskating babies in the advert).

I know because I live abroad and we can't use the tap water here, so I had to check all the different brands before we used them to make up our son's formula.
