7mo mix blw & purée

My 7mo still isn't that interested in food. I've been blw with veg from 6m and the first couple of batons go straight in the mouth but nothing really gets chewed or swallowed. I've taken to giving him 3 veg each time both boiled and roasted. On the occasion something breaks off in his mouth he gags and it comes out again.

I'm also part of the hipp trial but struggling to review because he barely eats half of what I heat up and I only heat half a jar a time. He has his own spoon and I feed him with another. He does better at swallowing this but it's still hit & miss.

Mealtimes are also taking so long! I'm struggling to stick to a schedule.

Surely at 7mo we should be doing better than this?

Some babies are more into it than others, try not to stress. It takes a lot of muscles to coordinate to chew food, get it to the back of the mouth and swallow. He'll get there. My DS is enthusiastic about food but has only really stopped gagging on things now at 10m.

I wouldn't stick with veg- literally give same as you're having - pasta, meat, fish, potatoes etc. It does take ages at the start.

It's very early days. Keep offering but don't expect any quick results. I did blw and it took my son a while to actually eat.

The BLW motto is ‘food is fun until they are one’ so don’t worry. As long as you avoid processed food, sugar and salt just go with the flow!

It’s takes forever for them to start properly eating I’ve found. Dd is nearly one and still doesn’t eat a huge amount. Although will devour endless amounts of udon noodles if I let her! Don’t stress, make it fun exploring new thins, there’s no need to worry when he’s still so little.

More your meals? Mashed potato, spag Bol etc?

Oblomov18 · 05/01/2018 15:28

And less jars? Possibly? I went to a tasting session and tasted loads of jars. I found them all vile and that they all tasted the same? So I just never used them with either ds's.
If they suit you fine, but maybe cut back on them if you dc don't seem to like them.

skankingpiglet · 05/01/2018 18:28

I found my DCs didn't really 'get' food until 9ish months. 7m is still very new to it all and they really don't need it at that age, it's complimentary to their milk.
I agree with PPs, just give a bit of whatever you're having (portioned out before you add salt) and sit down together to enjoy eating your still-hot meal. No need to stress about how much is being eaten, just let them explore and get on with it. The penny will drop for them soon enough Smile
