8 month baby keeps sicking up "real" food

It seems like my 8 month and half baby can't keep get through more than a tiny bit (like 6 teapoons) of real food - pasta, avocado, porridge, mashed potato ect without throwing up. Is this normal? He's ok with the small baby food sachets. And he never ever spat up milk.

He's breastfed on demand, and I'm trying to get him to eat a bit more as he still wakes up every 2-3 hours at night.
