Eight month old refusing any milk. Mother panicking. Help!!

My ds is nearly 8 months old. He was fully breastfed up until about 2 weeks ago and had made the transition to formula perfectly happily and was having 4 bottles a day. He now won't drink any milk whatsoever and refuses his bottle point blank. Anyone else had this happen to them? What did you do? He loves his solids and is on three good meals a day so he is obv. not going to starve but keep remember the hv going on about how they need a pint of milk a day

My DD did exactly same when I stopped b/f at 6 mths. She happily took formula for about 2 weeks then stopped. I was lucky if I got 8oz down her all day. I made food with lots of cheese sauces, and she had yogurt with everything. She is now just 8 mths and for some strange reason has started drinking formula again.

IME I wouldn't force the milk, I used to get so stressed about her not having the recommended 500-600mls a day. Once I relaxed and realised I couldn't make her drink she started again!!!

Yes, don't worry. If, as you say, your ds is eating 3 meals a day, including dairy and calcium-rich foods such as yoghurt, cheese, eggs and drinking water (or other fluids) then he is getting good nutrition. Tell the HV roughly what he actually is eating/drinking if you are worried.

BTW my DD had her 8mth cjheck about 2 weeks ago and explained to HV her lack of milk intake (as it was then). We went through her diet and she said it was fine, as long as baby eating well and happy and healthy not to worry!

As they say, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink.
Weaners are like that too. Just give them a balanced diet. They are learning to eat solids and if they are full of good food their little tums may not have much space for milk. I expect he will drink milk when he is more hungry.
