High chair for small baby (in small flat)?

Hi MNers

My DD is 5 months old and we are getting ourselves together to start weaning in a few weeks. She is already good at sitting upright unaided in my lap and is doing well in terms of physical skills (rolling etc) but she is small - halfway between 9th and 25th centiles. Can anyone recommend a high chair which is safe and comfortable for a small baby? Other considerations: our flat is small, so ideally we want something which folds up neatly, and I am small myself, so don't want something which will be difficult to lug about. Any suggestions very welcome!

Also - those of you with small babies - any suggestions for weaning foods which will encourage weight gain?

Baby not due until February but have had a couple of offers of high chairs already which I have declined due to lack of space ( little cottage), so it got me thinking, and I think I have settled on the chicco pocket snack to attach to one of the kitchen chairs, looks good, folds away tiny, and gets good reviews.

Ikea do tiny ones!!

IKEA do a blow up cushion that fits in their high chair. DS is smaller than your DD and he’s fine like that.

We've never had a proper high chair. Instead we got a booster seat thing with a tray that straps onto our usual dining chairs. We've got this one but it seems they've stopped doing it which is a shame because it's fab!

My LO isn't small but I have just bought the Chicco pocket snack booster chair, and it works really well for us. We don't have space for a full highchair but it means she can still sit and eat at the table with us. It is really compact when folded up too. Might be an option for you?

We also had one similar to AGnu and it was perfect for a small flat. Ikea ones are good but in a small space you will find yourself tripping over the legs a lot.

Yes I'd try the Phil &Teds one. You can use rolled towels to prop or wedge her if needed.

Ikea antilop is fab but takes up lots of floor space. Fold up ones often a bit rubbish IME.

Another option is a booster seat that attaches to a normal chair - some come with trays.

Re weight gain- remember milk is more nutritious and calorific than fruit/veg puree or baby rice etc so don't go too fast. And add lots of formula/BM to any purees.

The Ikea Antilop one is way easier to clean than the clip on ones (which tend to be made of fabric). And the legs unclip pretty easily so it's only a couple of minutes to take it apart - it does have quite a wide stance when set up, but the top part is small and then there at is just four metal poles which are the legs. The inflatable cushion bit helps with smaller babies, but as the seat part is flat (rather than sloping back), as long as they are genuinely sitting up by themselves, you may find you don't need to use any cushioning.

If you have a big budget or can get a second hand one, the baby Bjorn one is fucking fantastic and folds down to almost nothing. Brilliantly designed to support even little babies without them flopping about.

I wouldn't worry too much about weight gain if your baby is healthy and meeting milestones. Some babies are just smaller than others. A lot of 'first foods' aren't very calorie dense e.g. pureed veg etc, esp compared with milk. My friend with a teeny (prem) baby was advised to add butter/cream/cream cheese/avocado to everything, but her baby was 3lb at birth.

If you already have a dining table, we have a booster kinda seat that has a tray, which has a foam insert to make it more snug round the babies bum.
