Finger food for 7 month old.????

Hope someone can help us out here DD has no teeth as yet but is well into her food when should be introduce finger food as we are really worried about her choking on small pieces of apple, breadstick etc etc.

Now! I would leave raw apple for a while though - it's one of the few foods that can cause choking in a young baby.

Try starting with something like steamed broccoli florets or chip shaped pieces of veg.

Teeth don't matter - the gums are hard because the teeth are underneath them.

there are lots of finger foods that will dissolve in her mouth. think rusks, organics finger foods, and biscotti v good

Rusks (even reduced sugar ones) are packed with sugar though - far better to use 'real' food.

Toast, cheese, avocado, carrot, banana, sweet potato (roasted in oven), pasta twirls (with cream cheese or mayo), Organix apple rice cakes, fish/chicken goujons. These are all finger foods my DS loved (and still does).

Hi Tiddler, my DS is 7 months & is BLW (through him refusing spoons & purees etc!). From 6 months he has been eating, with no choking or problems, mango, banana, papaya, organix rice cakes & biscuits, apricots, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, pots, pear, pasta. We haven't given apple yet either! He cut his first tooth only yday but his gums have done an increible job at chewing

you could steam the apple though, cut into finger sized bites before steaming, and make it really soft

I discovered my 7 month ds loved turnip the other day!

Grated apple is also good. You can mix it with grated cheese if you want but it makes a right bloody mess

Steamed it and cut it into strips just like carrotts.

Brill some great ideas there for us to go on, tried some bread today and grated cheese, the dog was well impressed!!! and DD liked it aswell so good result all round. Thanks very much. x

organix do a range callled "Finger foods" and my daughter loves the carrot flavour crunchy sticks(a bit like giant wotsits) and they're safe from 6mths. They also do some that look like onion rings but they're a bit harder and she gagged a few times with those

my 7 month old loves melon.There's lots of it about at the moment,and it's really soft and juicy.Very melt in the mouth.Baby dribble can melt virtually anything!

DS ate an enormous amount of melon today The othhr thing I didn't mention was baby sweetcorn...he devours them...very funny to watch! Can anyone give me any lentil ideas?

Beware of vast quantities of melon! What goes in must come out and melon exits very quickly.

I've used a wartime recipe for lentil sausages, basically cooked lentils mixed with mashed potato (tarted up with whatever herbs take your fancy) then fried or baked.

You can do much the same using breadcrumbs and lentils. Ends up a bit chewier.

DD had a good go with plain old rice and lentils (the green/brown ones) the other day. She's 7 months, so that was more playtime than mealtime I think, but it's going to get easier for her as she gets more dextrous.
