BLW - How can a 7 month old eat lumpy food????

Someone on another thread about blw, when I asked them if you have to mush up pasta, said that with blw a 7 month old can eat 'real food' without having to mush it up...

Does it not get stuck in their throats and make them vomit???

I am not sure exactly what it is all about, as I have never heard of blw before. I am on baby 3 and am still learning about these things!

dd2 (7 months) will watch my spoon go from plate to mouth to plate and will try and grab my food and, if i give it to her, will put it in her mouth. However, unless it is mushed up, she looks horrified and just throws it straight back up....

basically stuffed a fistful of food into her mouth, squished it around, some fell out, some didn't. repeated until loads had gone, then she launched the rest of it onto the floor, so i guess she had finished!

that seems to be ds's signal that he's finished too!

glad it's going well and she enjoys it

the toast this morning was amusing. she kept putting it into her mouth then taking her hand away, so it looked like she had a toast 'tongue' hanging out of her mouth, then smushed it in with her hand.
question: when giving her banana, would it be best to give it her with the skin part on, as it gets really slimy and slippery?

i find that works best.... either thator i sometimes slice it up and put one slice at a time on a plastic baby fork that i hand to him and he chews at it

AitchTwoOh · 08/04/2007 19:49

if you search for banana on the www.babyledweaning.com you will see my geeky dissertation on how to prepare banana...

PinkTulips · 08/04/2007 20:23

yes but it works and thickos like me need geeky explanations to grasp simple concepts like feeding a banana to a baby

AitchTwoOh · 08/04/2007 20:27

and yet it meant the world to me at the time, that i'd found a Way That DD Would Eat Banana...

PinkTulips · 08/04/2007 20:30

well up til i read it i'd been trying to give poor ds slippery gunky chunks of banana with no skin and he was crying from frustration every time so he at least owes you a massive thank you

AitchTwoOh · 08/04/2007 20:38

well i insist that you post your plastic fork tip on as a comment, then.

have been reading the blw website for the past hour. excellent comments and recipes! feel like waking dd2 up again and putting a load of food on her highchair tray!
