Going away for a weekend and don't know what to do!

I've got my best friend's hen party in a month; it's two nights away from home, but DD will be 8 months and is still BF. She not only still feeds to sleep but wakes up for mini-feeds several times a night. All attempts to get her to sleep without the boob have failed. I've been trying to express but can't seem to get much out, whether with the hand or electric pump.

I was a BF only purist with DS but am accepting that DH may need to give her some formula while I'm away, but I don't know anything about it - how many bottles should we be buying? How much formula should an 8 month old be drinking? (She loves solids and is eating well - the nighttime feeding is for comfort, I think.) And she's been a bottle refuser all her short life - can formula be given in a cup? We have a doidy cup and a Munchkin Miracle cup which she's slowly getting the hang of.

Sorry for the essay - any suggestions?

I don't think it matters what it comes in as long as she takes it Smile DS has a cup with a straw (he's 9 months) he absolutely will not take formula though, I've only had any luck by either mixing it with vanilla essence or hot chocolate Confused

You can give formula but if it's for 2 days you could give cow's milk. As for amounts, a bf baby will usually take at most, a couple of ounces at a time as they just aren't used to the volumes apthat a ff baby has to drink.

You could try night Weaning. Have a google of Dr Jay Gordon Smile

Is that right @EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic ? bF babies take less volume? That's useful cos I can't get DS to take more than a few sips

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 23/09/2017 13:31

Yeah Smile. If you bf the baby takes the same volume whether they are 6 weeks or 6 months, roughly 25 floz in 24 hours so just over an ounce an hour. Ff babies have to drink an ever increasing amount of milk (2.5 floz of formula for every pound in weight) to get the nutrition they need as formula doesn't change with the baby like BM does Smile

That's really interesting - thanks 😊

Sorry for not replying sooner - thanks for all the replies! So @EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic if I can get out around 1l of milk, that should be ok for a couple of nights?

Not sure, there’s a bit here on the amount of EBM your baby is likely to need.

Hace you thought of giving one of the Bfing Helplines a call? A BFC should be able to help you come up with a plan Smile
