Annabel Karmel - apricot advice clarification please?

I read on one of Annabel Karmel's recipes that, with dried apricots, I need to be careful because some are treated with sulphur dioxide which can trigger asthma in susceptible babies. I'd quite like to try some apricot recipes with my DD, but have looked at about 10 different brands' of apricots and all of them are treated with sulphur dioxide - should I avoid them altogether? Does anyone know of any brands that don't use it as a drying agent, please? Thanks

I think if you go to a health food shop, you should find some untreated ones. They tend to be brown, rather than orange, in colour.

Waitrose do some organic ones without nasties in them if you have one near you

I don't have a waitrose near me, but will try some health food shops, thanks very much!!

Sainsburys do a brand of organic ones - the make is Crazy Jacks. A blue and green packet - they are normally with the seeds, nuts etc near the cake baking stuff. Soak them and then cook up - my dd loves them with apple!

You can also get fairtrade non-treated ones in some Oxfam shops which do food.

tescos do some organic unsulphured ones, they are lovely, about a zillion times nicer than the ordinary bright orange ones. they look a horrible brown colour, though.

I think I might switch to dried apricots, DS loves apricots but they are £11 a kg in Waitrose

Oh, and then he lobs them onto the floor of course
