BLW - how much water?

My DD (27 weeks) has suddenly got the hang of this eating malarky, polishing off a whole roast potato and two chunks of chicken yesterday. She's just had half a piece of cheese on toast and some melon and mango fingers for lunch.

Now she's started to eat stuff properly, how much water should she be having? I don't want to cut back on her milk too much.

She currently has 8oz milk at 7.30, 4 oz milk, solids and a few sips of water at lunch, 8oz milk at 2.30, more solids plus a few sips of water at 5.30 then another 8oz bottle before bed at 7.

Is she getting enough fluids?

Thanks!

My daughter has only recently started to drink lots more water at 15months. I used to worry but now I reckon as long as you've got plenty of wet nappies and DD isn't constipated let her take what she wants...
I think mine used to get most fluid from slices of pear!

I offer my DS water with each meal, and he drinks what he likes... sometimes a lot, sometimes a little. It's pretty much the same with food! And I generally have a cup of water around, which he will come and take if he wants it (he's nearly 1, BTW).

had been wondering this myself fleecy. my dd is a couple of weeks older than yours, still has about 30 oz of milk a day plus a bit of food,as and when (most ends up on floor, she's only been doing it a couple of weeks!)i try and offer her water but it ends up on the floor too!
i think she gets any extra fluid from sucking fruit!!

AitchYouBerk · 26/03/2007 14:47

i just offered it but most went on the floor for months. funnily enough she drank more from an open cup than a sippy one. like fibernie's dd, it's only recently that i've noticed her intake going up (as she's dropping milk feeds) and she's 15 montsh as well.

I offer it with each meal. I normally know when she wants it as she arches her back and pushes her tummy against the tray... I call it throwing banana shapes!

I don't give it to her straight away or she'll just stomp the food with it and squish it into oblivion.

She has a few sips here and there but no massive amounts... when she does sound like she's having a good old guzzle she normally opens her mouth and lets it all dribble down her chin and bib!

Cracking dinner date this one

Aitch, are ours near birthday buddies? Mine was born 2 Jan. I'm sorry haven't posted on your blog recently, keep getting distracted by making animal noises and building towers... plus I went back to work which seems to drain all spare time.

yep, she was the middle of december...
this is such a brilliant age, isn't it? i'm amazed every day at the things she's learning. come back and post, there are loads of newbies asking questions who would benefit from your wisdom.
