if DS (8months) doesn't start eating solids properly in the next few weeks, he will not be getting sufficient vitamins and nutrients.

Now, I thought that formula had all that was required for the first year hence the 'until they are 1, food is just for fun' - am I wrong? DS is hardly having any solids at the moment (for a variety of reasons which I won't go into) so who is right - me or the HV?

i stand well and truly corrected.

Thanks for all the advice - I switched DS to the next stage formula for 6+months which is fortified with extra iron - and there are certainly no problems on the constipation front

The problem is, not that he won't eat, he doesn't seem to know when to stop so I have to guess when he has had enough (how long is a piece of string??) otherwise he projectile vomits food and milk everywhere! Plus he has had a cough for weeks now which makes him puke too (I just have the world's pukiest child I think!)

Sorry - I have realised this contradicts my OP - the reason we stopped solids as he was puking so much he lost weight so I just gave him lots of milk to build him back up and I am now introducing solids slowly again.
