Hi. My 5 month old has been exclusively breast fed. She has always been the kind of baby to save up poos, and has gone for about 9 days before without going. I started weaning last week and she has been having pureed pear, on thursday i introduced carrot and baby rice. She hasn't pooed since monday, and is now getting a bit irritable. Is this constipation? if so, what can i do?

Oh = I am not sure- DD has held out for a couple of days, but not that long - can anyone else help?

MMM maybe more water (not sure how it works with BF... can't remember sorry. or try a bit of apricot (stewed) with some pear. My DD has never been consitpated so am only making suggestion.

Pear is a good poo shifter! as are prunes.

Also water. I think someone once told me if you put a tiny bit of orange juice in a cup of water that helps too. I can't vouch for that but the pear and prunes I can!

Hope she poos soon x

I have a 4 1/2 month DD with exactly the same thing-she is breastfed only poos once a week but has gone 10 days before.
At first I was really worried and went to the doctor with her. DR recommended 1 part pear or apple juice to 10 parts cooled boiled water. Last resort should be the same 1 part 10 part but with prune juice.
She also gave us some glycerine suppositories, which were very easy to use and did the trick in 2 minutes.... but try juice first.

maybe just go back to milk only. she's only 5 months so doesn't need food.

Same happened to us after I gave her too much too soon-bloody HV told me to give her more - long story!. Probably Bananas fault - they should come with a health warning

I gave loads of water in a tippy cup and dropped down to one meal at Lunchtime. Just gave carrots or babyrice and loads of Breast Feeds (offered her it every hour)and that did the trick.

I have now gone back to 2 meals and am avoiding bananas! She seems fine now.

try prunes and figs, and lots of water...apparently if you cook banana it might actually help her poo. worth a try maybe.
