Dairy and soya free finger food...

My six month old has cmpa and silent reflux. I have been weaning her slowly fir the past couple of weeks on vegetable and now fruit purees. She has reacted to some of the food she has so far. I want to start finger food and read that bread with cream cheese is good. Has anyone tried the Violife cheese spread? Have your babies reacted to it? I will try cucumber sticks too but a bit stuck for safe ideas

How about roasted sweet potato wedges, blueberry pancakes can be made with a milk alternative, I use almond milk but appreciate you might want to try one that isn't nut. Try hummus with raw veg too and have you tried making porridge fingers with her usual milk?

Anything really can be finger food. My DD hated spoons so I used to put the food on the tray with the high chair and she would rub it through her hair pick it up and eat it. Some of the first things she had were roast dinner and Spag Bol.

Oh and sorry, just realised I've done a MN classic of not answering the question. The DC haven't tried Violife as it's me that's CMPA, not them.

We didn't get on with violife but it's worth a go. Don't get caught up with trying over priced dairy alternatives. Just make sure your giving calcium and fat rich foods. Avocado, roast veg, home made dips, nut butters fish cakes, veg muffins, mini omlets. Look up paleo recipes which are dairy and sugar free. There's some great cmpa facebook groups including a weaning one.

Also, are you under a dietician? My son reacted to a lot initially and we were put on a very restricted diet and told how to introduce new things. We were never really able to pin point most of his allergies as he had delayed reactions but at 5 he's doing ok and can have cooked dairy in moderation.

SleepWhatSleep1 · 07/05/2017 20:29

Violife is grim inmy opinion.
DS (9 months) is dairy, soya and egg free. We blw.
So he eats chunky carrots, potatoes, sweet potato, broccoli, avocado, home made low salt bread with nut butters (so much bread has soya in it!) Bananas, apple wedges, fish fingers, pasta, chicken. Basically whatever we eat as long as it's egg dairy and soya free. He's even had a good crack at fist fulls of lentil curry with sticky rice! Grin

Oh also asparagus, mange toute, tomatoes, strawberries, halved blueberries etc. Dairy free flapjacks are a nice treat (low, but not no sugar).

Almost forgot mashed avocado on toast Smile

Can I just ask If you're giving all these foods at six months?

Certainly by 7 months. Started by offering banana, avocado, toast, pasta, fruit and veg. By 7 months I was offering. What was ate just no salt, and dairy and soya free.

Dalesgirl16 · 09/05/2017 17:46

Did any of you notice reactions in new foods if your babies have cmpa and reflux? We have only done veg and one fruit so far ( one new food every three days) and had lots of rashes and peeling skin! I don't know how I can get to meat and fish and all these things when I gave to introduce them so slowly.

Could she be allergic to fruit? Grapes absolutely murder me.

SleepWhatSleep1 · 09/05/2017 20:23

Well not much goes in initially with blw so no, no reaction at first - but we've started to notice a gastric reaction with egg. No skin reactions like with dairy and soya

Dalesgirl16 · 10/05/2017 23:06

Thanks. I have no idea if she is allergic to fruit as she has only had pear so far. I really hope not!

What was the gastric reaction like?

Diarrhoea with mucous and tummy pains. We thought it was a coincidence at first but it happened twice more after egg.

Dalesgirl16 · 11/05/2017 16:52

Oh dear! I need to try egg and meat next week. It's hard when I have to go so slowly.
