hi ladies - have only just found out what blw stands for [embarrassed] and am fascinated by it. My ds is 17 weeks so we are a little way off it yet but just wondering if there are any books about it you could recommend? I have seen Aitch's blw website, its great!
Feel a huge sense of relief about blw as this kind of weaning sounds exactly what i would have done if i hadn't had input from hv/friends/parents etc ...
thanks!

There are no books because there are no rules about what to give (just the usual guidelines re nuts, dairy, salt etc).

Glad you've seen the blog - was going to recommend that - it's pretty much the best source of info there is.

There's also a yahoo group for parents doing blw which you can join.

There's a good finger foods book

agree with the no books-no rules approach (and Aitch's blog), but this is handy if you want recipe ideas rather than as a 'How To Wean' treatise.

No book, though Aitch's blog is great. Gill Rapley who did the original research recently made a dvd about it though. I don't think it's available in shops so do a google search

I agree with the other ladies that there isn't really any way that a book could teach as it is the baby leading iykwim!

The best things I have found are chatting to other mums and reading blogs etc.

Also if you need inspiraion on food the yahoo group has recipes on it and I also have recipe/fingerfood books on my website (in my profile) if you are interested.

Lots of messy pictures of my daughter eating beautifully with her hands too!

A friend bought the Gill Rapley dvd but was not impressed at £25 for 17 mins worth of advice. Think it is on ebay these days so have a look.

Hope that helps x

You don't really need one. There is a clip of the DVD on youtube if you search "baby-led weaning". I've done a small blog on it but there's not much I can really say. I've BLW 2 children now, my eldest was the traditional puree early solids way. BLW is so much easier. Kind of looks strange to spoon feed to me now!

BizzyDint · 08/03/2007 08:59

the dvd is intended as a guide for HVs, to show them that babies can feed themselves. it's not really a parental guide.

i like that there is no guide, nothing to buy, just you, your baby, and some normal everyday food.

thanks ladies - guess that makes sense to have no books.. will just have to use my pretty head and all the blogs..cheers!
