Are you around AITCH?....very silly sounding BLW question [obsessive first time mum is it obvious? emoticon]

Hope you don't mind me asking

Banana...tried it today, DD loved it, went down better than the carrot that she refused point blank but took it out of it's skin (as DD was just sucking skin when holding it) so was very slippy...so much so that DD couldn't hold it. So I held it and DD lent forward to suck and chomp away...now should I do that or leave it completely for DD to try...only I don't want to just do another form of feeding her if you know what I mean...

Sorry if this sounds silly and yes, for anyone lurking, I know I sound sad and will look back on this post and

TIA Aitch

oh i don't think that's any sort of a problem, in fact there's a pic on the blog of my friend's wee girl doing exactly that.

bananas are tricky to start off with, so much so that dd didn't really like them until i got the hang of preparing them in a way she could eat them. i remember by puree friends saying sniffily that their babies adored banana and this was yet further evidence of my cruelty...

i found that the best way (as lovingly/wankily detailed on the blog) was to cut the banana in half and then peel back the skin and if she was in a mood to chew the skin i'd snip it off with kitchen scissors. i didn't have to do that for long as she soon twigged which was the tasty bit.

a lot of people put their finger up the middle of the banana, where it cunningly separates into three easier to hold bits. someone on here told me that, so give it a try too.

Thanks aitch. good to know.
Was amazed that she didn't gag...even after spitting 3 big lumps out, just shows she knew how to push them to the front of her mouth.
Broccoli went down a treat, as I said, she looked at me like I was mad with carrot and if could talk would of said FRO . Any other suggestions for other foods to try first?

Hope you don't me pestering you

cauliflower, courgette , pear, peach, sweet potato, butternut squash,

loved seeing dd with a big floret of broccoli in each paw......

MerryMarigold · 05/03/2007 13:20

in BLW are you not allowed to peel a banana and cut it into pieces?

AitchTwoOh · 05/03/2007 13:21

wot lulu said.
if you look at the blog you'll see the things i tried at the beginning in 'finger foods month 1'. and i strongly recommend the sweet potato chips, they're popular with young and old alike.

JustJAMMYtart · 05/03/2007 13:25

thanks guys

have read your blog many a time aitch...not sure why I'm looking for reassurance, it's like now I'm doing it I'm all "aitch...lulu...dizzy....."

jaamy..you are fine !!! doing really well, don;t stress...food is for fun until you are one

or 18 months if you are DD !

AitchTwoOh · 05/03/2007 13:35

i think it sounds like you are doing just fine. it's amazing how 'into' it they are in the beginning, isn't it?

JustJAMMYtart · 05/03/2007 13:35

That is the strange thing lulu...not at all worried about how much DD eats, or her not liking stuff, feel very relaxed about that, she'll get there in her own time...just worried about choking, harming her.

It is lovly aitch was fully expecting DD is just play with the food for ages, weeks even, but she just knew instinctively what to do and it blew me away

filmed it and everything

pmsl. (although i did start a bloomin' blog about it so am in a glass house...)

JustJAMMYtart · 05/03/2007 13:42

Yes but yours has helped many, many people. I just have footage of DD with banana all over her face, with me sounded as excited as a school child, going on as if she is the first baby ever to eat.

But it will be worth it to see DD cringe when she's older
