Pudding / dessert ideas for 8mth old

looking for half healthy treat type things.

I thought i could make flapjacks Any other ideas?

does he need pudding? I'm lazy so it's normally fruit, yoghurt or nothing.

any homemade cake or biscuit will be better than a shopbought one - my most-used rceipes are here but seem to have lost their formatting - sorry.

just thought it'd be a nice change for him from yogurt or bananas really.

I made my dd bread and butter pudding, and fruit crumble with hoemade custard. All quite easy as I am a completely crap cook.

Unfortunately we are now having a little tussle about this ATM, as these are the ONLY things she will eat

chopped up strawberries, mangos, pineapple - these are always greeted with delight by my kids

stewed fruit with homemade custard (apricots are a particular fave)

bread and butter pudding (not particularly good for you but if you use wholewheat bread and loads of raisins/sultanas it's not too bad for an occasional desert).

I give fruit or yoghurt.. SOmetimes for something different some of the deserts in the jars are quite nice too for an occassional treat!

i hadn't thought of rice pudding I love rice pudding...

Malt loaf's a good one too.

Also a sort of summer pudding thing. Tinned raspberries and bluberries or blackcurrants.

Bung some small slices of white bread in with above. Leave to soak for a bit. Mash it up, then serve with yoghurt/soft cheese/cream/creme fresh. yummy

Or jelly made with milk

Mine loves rice pudding too.
I also gace then a jam sponge pudding with custard after their roast last sunday.

My DD also likes banana cake as well as carrot cake.

You could do apple pies and apple crumbles
or any fruit pie/crumbles.

Stewed fruit, like apples, plums, peaches etc.

Fruit salads

bread & butter pudding

scones and jam

stewed rhubarb with custard or rice pud is a favourite here

baked apples with raisins

poached pears

cranachan for special occasions

upside down cake

What's cranachan? Can I ask something on sugar issue here? My dd is 7 months old and we are not supposed to use sugar.

Buuuut, I made some banana flapjacks for her, and they needed syrup to bind it together. Also carrot cake had sugar in.

What do other people do?

I don't pur sugar over things but she's had the odd cake I've made that used soft brown suger in ingrediants. But tbh I wasn;t doing that until just recently and she's 14 months now. When she was younger all I ever gave her was fruit and yoghurts.

why are you not supposed to use sugar?

Because it encourages a sweet tooth, and I thought the advice was not to add sugar to anything.

depends how you see it really. fruit is sweet, as are various other foods, without adding sugar. breast milk is very sweet also.

i would rather dd had proper sugar than any artificial sweetener. but i also don't give dd any 'treats' other than rice pudding, moon biscuits and apple rice cakes. other than that she has fruit. but she tends to have her fruit before her main food rather than afterwards. she has it while her food cools down..we're doing blw so eat all together.

I don't see the harm in giving them things like carrot and banana cake now and then though.
9 times out of 10 she has youghurt and fruit, both sweet anyway.
Yoghurts also have sugar in them don't they?

As long as you don't sprinkle half a ton of sugar over her weatabix I think you're ok

yoghurt has sugar in it if it's added, but plain natural yoghurt doesn't.

of course it's probably best to get your child used to foods in their plain state, so no sugar on top of cereal or sugar 'to sweeten it up' as MIL always says. but sugar in a cake is fine..otherwise it's not much of a cake is it?

No I guess it's not. Thanks very much, this has really made me rethink. I know fruit and stuff is sweet, but I thought the big bad sugar was not meant to be given,
